Wooooah no Ankur this month?!
Let me explain….
Ankur has decided to pass the monthly update blog post to me, the (new) Product Educator. I know, I miss his writing style, too! It’s a big responsibility, and I have a lot to live up to.
July has been a month different from the rest. For starters, two of our fearless leaders (Ankur and Andrew) were away on vacation during the beginning of the month. Still waiting to see pics, guys…
New members joined the team (me!), and even more will be starting in August.
That said, hiring and all that comes with it has been a huge priority for us during the month of July. (Want to join the Teachable team? See current openings here.) Hiring top talent is never easy. Entire companies are dedicated to sourcing the best of the best.
Aside from seeking out the best folks to join Teachable, there’s been another major focus for the month of July: improving the product.
Specifically, the experience people have using the product.
While there’s nothing tangible to show (yet!) we’re working hard now to reveal some big (and pretty sexy, if I do say so myself) product updates in August.
Along with an updated interface for school owners, we’re also working on revamping the knowledge base. Our goal with both initiatives is to make it even easier for you to create awesome courses.
New Features This Month
Send Emails to Specific Segments of Students
Now you can send an email to an entire course in the Emails > Compose area. Say you added some awesome new content to a course, you can now easily email students only enrolled in that course to let them know about the updates.
There are countless ways this can come in handy. You could even use it for marketing purposes. For instance, email a specific course list notifying them of a new offer, update or promotion.
Similarly, in Emails > History, you can now group sent emails based on type. For instance, emails sent to students after enrolling in a course. Or, emails sent to students that canceled a subscription to one of your courses.
More than that, you can filter the results down to a specific student. This is helpful when it comes to tracking bigger-picture trends, but also individual behaviors.
What's Coming Up
I know you're all excited about Zapier and VAT - and so are we! We're so excited, in fact, that we wanted to include it in this months update but we aren't quite ready to unroll it yet.
BUT! Rest assured that they are top priorities for us and we have people working on them as I type.
(A little birdie told me we should have Zapier ready within a week - score!)
Features That No One is Using and It Makes Me Sad
We heard you. You can now receive notifications when a student comments on a lecture. We just gotta get everyone to turn ‘em on! Here’s how:
- Going to Settings in your Teachable admin area
- Select Email
- Toggle comment notifications to be set to Yes
- Click Save
This allows you to be immediately notified when someone comments in your course. Build a community, get social and get to know your people.
Our Finest Content From The Month
July’s posts were aimed at common problem areas. Ashley & Morgan talked about video content, pricing and making money post launch AND there were some awesome free downloads hidden in the posts.
- Create Interactive Videos For Your Online Course (snag the free video tool)
- How to Price Your Online Course (download the free pricing calculator)
Love freebies? Yeah, who doesn’t. That’s why we give them away in every single issue of Make Change Weekly - our Friday roundup of the best content to help you run your own online biz.
Each week, our featured guest includes a handcrafted downloadable for you to snag. We’ve got a course from Justin Brooke, resources for solopreneurs from Explorista, a Pinterest course and new goodies coming out this Friday.
In case you didn't get them the first time...
- Jesse Krieger of Lifestyle Entrepreneurs Press
- Justin Brooke of Digital Media Buying Institute
- Milou van Roon of Explorista
- Summer Tannhauser of Lady Boss League
What's Happening Next Month
Cha cha cha changes! (Which we couldn’t be more excited about them.)
Again, we’ve been working away during July making product improvements across the board. Teachable grew so fast over the last two years, it was time to sit back for a minute and take a look at the larger picture. What is working? What’s not? How can it be improved?
Not only is our end-goal to create a better experience for Teachable school owners - you - we’re also hoping these interface changes and knowledge base updates will make it easier for internal teams - like Customer Care.
Beyond the product, Ashley will be hosting our first ever Course Creation + Business Accelerator August 23-29th. When I heard about it, I was like DANG GURL!
Ya'll are in for a treat, this is a one-week live training intensive with the experts exploring how to execute each part of our 7-step course creation process (validating your idea, growing your list, creating your content, etc.).
Is this like our previous summits? Nah. This puppy is focused on what to do and HOW to do it and was made specifically for Teachable users who haven’t made a sale.
Think action items, to-do lists and tutorials. PLUS - it’s followed by a 30 Day Course Creation program that will keep you on track (with tools in hand) leading up to your launch.
Keep an eye open on your email & follow us @teachable.
We’re still hiring! Specifically for the following:
- Lead Content Marketer
- Front End Developer - Growth Team
- Operations Manager
- Customer Care Specialist
Learn more about each of the openings here. We’re looking to expand the Teachable team in the coming months. Perks include health-care coverage, all the beer and coffee you can handle, and working with the coolest people ever in Manhattan.
I want to hear from you. How can creating a course on Teachable be even better? Email me at [email protected]. Or, leave a comment below!
